Freed Young Explorers STEM Program
Inspiring Future Innovators
In July 2024, Precinct4Forward supported Harris County Precinct 4’s efforts to embark upon a summer STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program for youth. Launched at Freed Community Center, the Freed Young Explorers STEM Program empowers at-risk youth through dynamic, hands-on STEM activities. Focusing on rocketry, drones, robotics, and 3D printing, the program sparks curiosity, encourages creativity, and builds critical thinking skills.
This initiative would not have been possible without support from H.E.B Tournament of Champions.
Program Highlights:
Rocketry: Guided by Precinct 4 staff and volunteers, students designed, built, and launched model rockets.
Drones: Youth learned drone technology fundamentals and flew their own drones in Freed Park’s greenspace.
LEGO Robotics: Students mastered coding and robotics with LEGO kits, progressing in complexity by grade level.
3D Printing: Participants learned 3D printing basics, crafting fantasy game pieces to foster creativity.
Enhanced Learning:
We capped off this STEM program with a free visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, which gave students an unforgettable real-world STEM experience.
